Many companies now offer remotely based job opportunities or allow existing employees the flexibility to work from home. For many people, this is a dream come true: no more rush hour commutes, no more water cooler conversations distracting you from work, you don’t even have to change out of your pajamas. However, maintaining office productivity when your office is your living room can be difficult. Here are a couple solutions.
Work Time Is for Working
Set up working hours, including coffee and lunch breaks, and stick to them. Save all personal tasks for your breaks, the same way you would if you were at the office.
Create an Actual Home Office Environment
Designate a specific place in your house as your home office. Make sure it has everything you need such as phone, internet access, a printer/scanner and a proper desk with a comfortable chair. If your family or partner will be home during your work hours, choose a room with a door to keep out distractions.
It can take a little while to adjust to working from home, but most people find that they highly prefer it. Setting up your workspace where you feel most comfortable and setting up work hours that fit your natural productivity and lifestyle will boost home office productivity, leaving you more free time for the other aspects of your life.
